Game of Life and life
“Conway's Game of Life” was invented in the 1970's by UK mathematician John Horton Conway. The game is an application of “cellular automation”, which was invented in the 1950's, a computer game based on “life rules”. The 2D computer screen is considered a space for life, the filled grids and blank grids represent life and death. A grid dies because of too many or too few neighbors; alife because of the appropriate number of neighbours. This model is a very
simple simulation of the life ecosystem.


After moving to the UK, I found that people here like to be polite in appearance, but also show their unhappiness in a subtle, clear way. What keeps me confused is if people show their positive side by “Being polite”, then what should they do when in a really bad condition?


Emotion also has its ecosystem. The bad side will not disappear by pretending. Too much of both is unreasonable.

生命遊戲與生命

「康威的生命遊戲」由英國數學家約翰·霍頓·康威於1970年代發明。該遊戲是「細胞自動化」的應用,發明於20世紀50年代,是一款基於「生命規則」的電腦遊戲。

 

二維電腦螢幕被視為生命的空間,填滿的網格和空白的網格分別代表生命和死亡。一個網格會因為鄰居過多或過少而死亡;一個網格則因為鄰居數量合適而存活。這個模型是對生命生態系的一個非常簡單的模擬。

 

搬到英國後,我發現這裡的人們喜歡在外表上保持禮貌,但也會以一種微妙而清晰的方式表達他們的不滿。讓我感到困惑的是,如果人們透過「禮貌」來展現積極的一面,那麼當他們處於非常糟糕的境地時,他們應該怎麼做呢? 情緒也有其自身的生態系統,不好的一面不會因為偽裝而消失。兩者其一過分,都是不合理的。

“Tsk, you are so lovely.”
When people are in a good mood, they say a lot of “lovely”. In contrast, they make a “tsk” by saliva and tongue which sounds like “zer” to notice “you are annoying”. As a result, I want to use “Game of life” as a system, to stimulate the accumulation of emotion, showing the coexistence and interaction between good and bad emotions in a British or London environment.

When a grid alife, it makes a “lovely” sound. When a grid dies, it makes a “zer” sound. There are six speakers in the area, corresponding to the 2D area of the computer screen, presenting the condition of different areas, providing a performance of the emotional ecosystem. “嘖,你真可愛”

當人們心情好的時候,會說很多「可愛」。相反的,他們會用唾液和舌頭發出 “嘖嘖” 聲,表示 “你真煩人”。因此,我想用「生命遊戲」作為一個系統,來模擬情緒的積累,展現在英國或倫敦的環境中,好情緒與壞情緒的共存與互動。

當格子復活時,會發出“lovely”的聲音。當網格死亡時,會發出 “嘖” 的聲音。區域內有六個揚聲器,對應電腦螢幕的二維區域,呈現不同區域的狀態,展現情緒生態系統。下方是概念圖和電腦工具圖。以及「嘖,你真可愛」的照片。

Furthermore, I made recordings on the street. With a similar set up, providing a space for audiences to the atmosphere and imagination. In the future, the model can work in different spaces with different languages.
